Peter Moses

Peter Moses 27 is traveling to St Johns New Brunswick on the Lady's Adventure with the Kings Royal Dragoons. He is possobly the brother of James and William Moses. His owner is a prominent figure from Elizabeth City/Hampton, James Balfour. He is travelling with his wife Joyce who claims to be born free and in the West Indies and their 12 year old daugher Tilly. He and his family ran to Lord Dunmore in 1775-6.

Evacuation of New York - New York

  • Evacuation of New York -

    In April 1783 the first evacuation fleet left for Nova Scotia. A week later  the British Commander, Sir Guy Carleton, sailed up the Hudson River to Orangetown for a conference with General Washington to discuss the evacuation. As the victorious commander, Washington opened the meeting by reiterating the resolution of Congress regarding “the delivery of all Negroes and other property.”
