Thomas Freeman

Thomas Freeman is the husband of Patience Freeman. His owner John Rootes did not come from the Norfolk area, however it seems likely that Thomas Freeman was known to Mary Perth, given John Rootes married the daughter of Dr John Reade, a neighbour of John Willoughby. The surname is probably derived from William Freeman and sons, major slave owners in Norfolk and Princess Anne County. Thomas probably joined Cornwallis's army in 1781 and married Patience later in New York. He travels alone on the Joseph to Nova Scotia but is listed in the Birchtown muster. Thomas and Patience Freeman relocate to Sierra Leone with Mary and Caesar Perth.
